Dieter Mersch setzt - im Rückgriff v. a. auf Benjamin und Lévinas - diesem Paradigma eine ?performative Ästhetik? entgegen, die zwar auf zeitgenössische Phänomene der Kunst zugeschnitten ist, von dort aus aber den Bogen zurück zur ?klassischen? Kunst schlägt und somit, im kritischen Dialog mit den avanciertesten Positionen der ästhetischen Theorie (Danto, Goodman), in nicht weniger als eine Theorie der Kunst von der Moderne her (mit den Exponenten Cage und Beuys) einmündet.
