Long description:

Two years after the publication of the first volume (IG XII 4, 1), the second of five volumes has now been released, which contains the ancient inscriptions from the island of Kos as well as the neighboring islands of Kalymna, Leros, Lepsia, and Patmos. The second volume (IG XII 4, 2) compiles lists of names, dedicatory and honorific inscriptions, as well as boundary stones from the island of Kos, a total of 816 inscriptions, among them 250 that were previously unedited. They provide a detailed and surprising view of the religious and social life of the polis of Kos and surrounding rural communities (Isthmos, Halasarna, and Antimachia) during the Hellenistic period and the early period of the Roman Empire.

"Insgesamt erweisen K. Hallof und D. Bosnakis mit diesem und den noch zu erwartenden Bänden der Erforschung der lokalen Geschichte von Kos sowie der griechischen Epigraphik einen großen Dienst, denn sie tragen erheblich zu einer exzellenten Grundlagenforschung bei."
Eftychia Stavrianopoulou in: GNOMON 2/89/2017, 131-137
