Jüdische Kinderbibeln in der Zeit der Haskala

Das vorliegende Buch bietet eine detaillierte Untersuchung von jüdischen Kinderbibeln, die zwischen 1796 und 1821 erschienen und der Literatur der jüdischen Aufklärung zuzurechnen sind. Dabei wird das Korpus dieser Kinderbibeln zunächst komparatistisch erfasst und anschließend anhand von drei ausführlichen Einzelstudien exemplarisch analysiert und in den religiösen, kulturellen, literaturästhetischen und erziehungstheoretischen Diskursen der Zeit verortet. Die Analyse der hebräischen Texte dieser Bibeln bietet darüber hinaus eine der ersten Untersuchungen der Varietät des Hebräischen zur Zeit und im geistigen Umfeld der Berliner Haskala. Es wird dabei deutlich, dass die jüdischen Kinderbibeln als intra- und interlinguale kulturelle Übersetzungen zu verstehen sind.
Die Arbeit baut auf die Untersuchung Mit der Bibel in die Moderne: Entstehung und Entwicklung jüdischer Kinderbibeln auf. Während dort eine umfassende literar-, sozial- und religionshistorische Darstellung der Gattung von deren Anfängen in der jüdischen Aufklärung bis in das 21. Jahrhundert geboten wird, fokussiert der vorliegende Band ausschließlich auf die Kinderbibeln der jüdischen Aufklärung, die als literarisches und pädagogisches Medium der Haskala selbst einen bedeutenden Beitrag zu derselben leisteten und zentrale Quellen für deren Verständnis sind, insbesondere hinsichtlich der Popularisierung der Aufklärung und ihrer pädagogischen Umsetzung.


The present study aimes at a detailed examination of the Jewish Children?s Bibles that were published between 1796 and 1821 and are part of the literary production of the Jewish Enlightenment. It describes the corpus and provides three detailed and representative analyses, contextualizing their results in the religious, cultural, literary and educational discourses of the time. In addition, the analysis of the Hebrew texts found in these Children?s Bibles provides one of the first substantial contributions to the study of the Hebrew language used at the time and in the intellectual context of the Berlin Haskala. The book demonstrates that Jewish Children?s Bibles should be understood in terms of intra- and interlingual cultural translations.
The study builds upon the results of the preceeding study of the same author With the Bible into the Modern Age. Origin and Development of Jewish Children?s Bibles. While the latter provides a comprehensive description of the genre in terms of literary, social and religion history, from its emergence in the Jewish Enlightenment until the 21st century, the present volume focusses exclusively at the Children?s Bibles of the Haskala, serving as an important literary and pedagogical medium for it and thus contributing to it. As a result, the corpus of Mascilic Jewish Children?s Bibles is a crucial source for the understanding of the Jewish Enlightenment, especially in regard to the popularization and the pedagogical implementation of its concepts and visions.
