Niklas Luhmann hat bekanntlich eine allgemein ansetzende Theorie der Macht entworfen, die zeigt, wie sehr Machtlagen von Gesellschaftsstrukturen und insbesondere von Differenzierungsformen abhängen und sich mit ihnen ändern. "Macht im System" entstand in den späten 1960er Jahren und zeugt von der Bedeutung des Themas im Frühwerk Luhmanns. Anders als in späteren Fassungen seiner Machttheorie argumentiert er hier eher systemtheoretisch als kommunikationstheoretisch. "Macht im System" ist somit auch ein aufschlussreiches Dokument der Systemtheorie im Werden.
