Der Sammelband widmet sich dem Thema "sprachliche Kürze" in umfassender Weise. Thematisiert werden u.a. Aspekte der Sprachökonomie, der Kommunikationstheorie, Kurzwörter in verschiedenen europäischen Sprachen, Kürze in Wortbildung und Syntax, Rhetorik und Stilistik, Kürze als Prinzip der Vornamengebung. Er enthält Beiträge namhafter Autorinnen und Autoren, in denen sowohl Forschungsüberblicke gegeben als auch neuartige Ansätze vorgestellt werden.
